The nine most common food allergens in the United States according to the FDA are:
Milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame.
These are known as the “Big 9”. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) identified the first eight allergens, and the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act added sesame in 2021.
A common warning:
Normal kitchen operations may involve some shared cooking and preparation areas, equipment and utensils, and the possibility exists for your food items to come in contact with other food products, including allergens.
